I developed a love for craft beer while an undergrad at West Virginia University. But my love for brewing beer began with a credit card and a Brewer’s Best Dunkelweizen kit. Even though brewing in my apartment was a pain in the ass, I loved every minute of being able to create something out of pretty minimal ingredients.
Several bad beers, and exploding bottles later, I had found something I truly had a passion for, so I packed my bags and headed home to Parkersburg.
In 2012, I started our homebrew club, The Infamous Parkersburg Alers. At that point I was already working on a plan to start a microbrewery and after talking with Dan, who I met through the club, I realized that we had a lot of similar goals and our skills complemented each other. And so, Parkersburg Brewing Co. was born.
In 2008, my interest for brewing was kickstarted during my brother-in-law's homebrewing session. The day after the homebrew session I went from a partial mash system to a fully loaded EHERMS electric brewery in the brew room I built in my basement in 2011.
After joining The Infamous Parkersburg Alers, I came to know, and became friends with Justin Logue, the founder of the group. As we became more acquainted with each other, it became evident that we both had the same passion for brewing and starting a brewery. He was working on a startup plan and I was looking for someone to startup a brewery with me. It was like a match made in heaven. We both have the same passions, brew great beers, and have skills and experiences that supplement each other. It was at that point for me that Parkersburg Brewing Co. became my next goal.
I grew up in the Wild and Wonderful state of West Virginia and have a background in Accounting/Finance. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to travel to different regions and experience a variety of drinks and respective business minded (and non-business minded) establishments. Through these experiences, it didn’t take me long to realize the quality of the atmosphere is just as important as the quality of the drink, so when I was humbled by the opportunity in Parkersburg Brewing Company and its vision, being a Parkersburg native was the icing on the cake.
Given I’m the only member with little to no home brewing experience, I have typically found myself on the consuming end of this industry rather than on the producing end. In fact, my first real home brewing experience was with Walt, which in this first instance, we dealt with a full kettle of brew and a brand new element that came un-soldered, which resulted in its own unique crash course in ingenuity, but the rest of that story is for another time (and yes, the brew still turned out delicious).
I share our team’s excitement, enthusiasm, drive, and dedication to the Parkersburg Brewing Company mission and the impact it can have in my hometown of Parkersburg and all the hometowns across our great state; further, I look forward to sharing and experiencing this same passion with all of you – see you in the taproom!
I have been an avid home brewer for about 15 years. Over this period of time, I have really enjoyed not just brewing beer, but teaching new home brewers about the beer making process and converting novice craft beer drinkers to craft beer snobs. This is really how I became a craft beer brewer when my wife introduced me, many years ago, to a real IPA.
Over the last five years, I had been considering and thinking about starting up a microbrewery when Justin and Dan reached out to me with a passionate plan and the history of Parkersburg Brewing Company. This was an opportunity to get involved in something that I truly love to do. The story and the mission of Parkersburg Brewing Company was all that was needed to get me hooked on the business.
My career has led me around the world and I have had the privilege to sample beers throughout Europe and the Far East...each of them having an influence on my brewing style, especially from our friends in the UK and Ireland. Parkersburg Brewing Company is a passion for our entire team and we look forward to sharing our bold flavors, high quality beers, and our genuine love for this ancient art with all of you. Slainte!
